After working on soda, i shifted over inside Chiat and started to work on Gatorade. The team felt like a squad. Like everyone had played sports and knew how a team should run. The #winfromwithin platform had just been sold to Gatorade, and I was lucky enough to start getting to make work against it. We went back to tell the Flu Game story. Game 5. 1997 NBA Finals. 103 degree temperature, as told by Phil Jackson. To hear him give his firsthand account of Jordan’s will to win was spiritual.
Somewhat less spiritual, but equally inspiring was the story of USA swimmer Ryan Lochte. This time we spoke with Florida State and USA Olympic Swimming coach Gregg Troy. He told the story of a swimmer who was a goof off that was good, but could be great. When Ryan rededicated himself to swimming and started paying attention to his diet – read not McDonald’s cheese burgers in the Olympic village- he was able to become the fastest swimmer in the world.
